PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Beyond the known dimensions of space and structure there are other infl uences not clearly perceived. Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese system of geomancy (laws of heaven and earth) that main concern is the fl ow of qi (life energies) and its effects upon all living things. Using these principles as an abstraction and the cycle of the fi ve elements water, wood, fi re earth and metal a hotel was designed. Functional and regulatory concerns were emphasized and well integrated with the design solution, but mainly the objective was to create harmony between life and its environment. Narrowing the gap between the build and the natural, this is Feng Shui- allowing the energies infl uencing life to work as a system, an integrated design, not only supporting life but enhancing living.  As a system Feng Shui encourages open spaces- never clutter. The plan is open and spacious with various levels of transparency and refl ection. Arrangement of furniture is important, not only as a means to order but to allow the proper fl ow of energy. Areas of work and rest are kept apart as much as possible and important that the element of water be included. Colors and materials play an important role in Feng Shui. Yellow is health and represents earth and awareness. While red is the color of self confi dence and passion and white is purity and clarity. Black is considered career and path wile gray and silver symbolizes travel. Each color and material is selected to support specifi c activities and to encourage complete interrelation with the fl ow of energy and its environment. Like all Feng Shui designs its main concern is the well being of its occupants.
