There is so much talk about design. Even before I set foot in a design course

I knew that Design was not a certain truth. For some a process- an active approach

to solving problems and fi nding identity. For others a set of guiding principles-

a leading force for fi nding solutions. Perhaps the truth is somewhere in

between. No matter what I think today, I am sure that a year or two from now

my beliefs will be different. If there is certainty, I am only to fi nd it in its

evolving nature.

 

Like the “Wave and Particle Theory” in scientific thought so is design- relying on

the ordering principles, but never fearing to venture into the exciting world of

new and unclaimed experiences. At times design is wave-like, moving rhythmically

creating sensations- but often straight and sensible, with the economy of a

line, seeking meaning and expression through form and order. This is the duo

nature of the art and the inspiring theme of my design values.

I am a strong believer on principles, but open to new design experiences- ever

ready for an opportunity to create newer sensations. Never have we had so

many tools at our disposal or so much knowledge of the human psychic. Yet

at the heart of design is awareness- especially of space. The designerʼs task is

to unify all effects in place and on time to contribute and magnify experience.

Every sensation is important- each part of the whole.

 

Miami Dade College and FIU have been a good foundation for me and provided the

basic skills that I needed to transfer to upper division. Now I am prepared for

new challenges as I move closer to my lifelong goal of becoming an interior

designer. With the objective of becoming a professional and through my work

contribute. At the moment my only objective is to learn from those that have

gathered experience and knowledge of the art. Yet at the same time I am building

my values- for it is upon them that I will stand as I set to “create and build.”
